Our goal: Zero Lives Lost. Zero Property Damage.

Stopping Fires. Saving Lives. Serving You.

Protecting Our Community with Excellence and Dedication

Established over a decade ago, the Stoneville Fire Department (SFD) stands as a beacon of commitment and professionalism in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Operating as a 24-hour volunteer service, our team is bolstered by part-time firefighters who provide coverage from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our dedicated personnel deliver a comprehensive range of emergency services, including fire suppression, vehicle extraction, and emergency medical treatment.

Beyond emergency response, SFD is deeply invested in community engagement and education. We conduct fire safety programs at Stoneville Elementary School and actively participate in local events to promote awareness and preparedness.

Our operations extend beyond the municipal boundaries, serving a broader fire district with unwavering dedication. Funded primarily through a Fire Protection Tax and grants, our department benefits from a 2₵ property tax and a $5.00 municipal vehicle tax, implemented in 2016 to support the salaries of our part-time staff.

Under the leadership of Chief Joel Freeman and Assistant Chiefs Barry Smith and Ricky Craddock, SFD maintains a state-of-the-art fleet, including:

  • Engine 70: 2000 E-One Pumper Tanker

  • Engine 73: 2014 E-One Typhoon

  • Tanker 75: 2003 E-One Tanker

  • Chief 70: 2019 Ford F250

  • Brush 70: 2016 Ford F350

Our mission is clear: to minimize the loss of life and property through proactive fire prevention, rapid emergency response, and community education. We are proud to be recognized as one of the highest-ranking volunteer fire departments in the state, noted for our efficiency, punctuality, and comprehensive emergency services
